Eine 1:1-Zuordnung von Mundschutzen zu einer Luftreinheitsklasse gemäß ISO 14644-1 ist nicht möglich. Lediglich aufgrund spezieller, aus reinraumtechnischer Sicht relevanter Eigenschaften wie z. B. „Abriebfestigkeit“ oder „Partikelemission“ und zum Teil „Filtrationseffizienz“ können Empfehlungen ausgesprochen werden. In der VDI-Richtlinie 2083 Blatt 9.2 Kapitel 6 finden Anwender weitere Hinweise hierzu.
